First and foremost, we are teachers. Amongst us now are multi-classroom teachers, substitute teachers, and even teachers on leave. But regardless of the season of life in which we find ourselves, we will always be teachers. Our classroom experiences span the K-12 spectrum. We represent experiences from the mountains to the coast, from urban to rural, and in person as well as virtual classrooms.
While each member of TEACH21 has held a variety of school, district, or state leadership roles in North Carolina public schools, as a team we are especially passionate about leading and equipping others to lead district Teacher Leadership Councils (TLCs). Our vision for TLCs is the creation of 115+ sustainable and effective TLCs throughout all of North Carolina's public school units.
TEACH21 members participate in a number of advisory roles across North Carolina K-12 public education. Eugenia Floyd, the 2021 NC Burroughs Wellcome Fund Teacher of the Year serves as a teacher advisor to the North Carolina State Board of Education. All members serve on the Superintendent's State Teacher Leadership Council. Jennie Bryan, Susanna Cerrato, Eugenia Floyd, Kelly Poquette, Nicole Rivers, and Cece Sizoo-Roberson are Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP) alumni.
None of us were truly prepared for the outstanding opportunities we would have to speak and share our perspectives on the joys and challenges of our profession. We are grateful to our education partners like the Public School Forum and Tar Heel Teachers who have elevated our voices.
